We met in Grande Prairie while Amy was going to nursing school and working evenings at a local bar. Mickey was working as an instrumentation tech and often came to the local bar to relax and socialize. Over late-nights and easy conversations, Mickey taught Amy how to two-step, a skill that was not common in British Columbia, where she grew up. What started as a few dances quickly turned into long conversations, plenty of laughter, and a connection that felt easy and natural from the very beginning.

A few months into our relationship, Mickey returned home to help take care of his family ranch, beginning two long and challenging years of long distance. Despite the miles between us, we focused on building our careers and supporting one another from afar. During that time, Amy earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, while Mickey learned the ins and outs of running the family ranch.

Eventually, Amy took the leap and moved across the province to join Mickey and his family. Mickey has been endlessly patient and encouraging as Amy learned the rhythms of ranch life, while fully supporting her dream of working long shifts at the local hospital.

Through every challenge along the way, we’ve learned just how important it is to stay connected, support one another, and encourage each other’s dreams.

Mickey planned the proposal at one of our favourite places on the ranch, a quiet spot tucked into the mountainside, with beautiful views and complete privacy. A small lake sits there, where the dogs played nearby as we soaked in the moment. He surprised Amy with an intimate picnic, thoughtfully planned down to every detail. True to form, Mickey told no one about his plans, making the moment even more meaningful and unforgettable.

As we look ahead to this next chapter, we’re reminded of how far we’ve come and how grateful we are for the love and support surrounding us. We’re excited to continue building a life together, grounded in partnership, purpose, and a whole lot of love.
